There are so many different aspects to this book and themes you can explore with your child such as : 

  • Sinking and floating  - explore the adding of characters to the boat with each weight adding to the total and then causing the boat to sink (Literacy , Maths and Science) 
  • Rhyming words -  explore the words that rhyme when reading , get children to clap if the two words rhyme , ask for examples of rhyming words etc 
  • For children who suffer with anxiety the book can be used to explore the fact that not one particular worry or thought can "sink their boat" or cause them to have anxiety - it can be lots of small little things added onto their day and that by working through each small worry / anxious thought they can keep their "boat afloat"
